The Inside Sales Engineer (ISE) is an essential part of the selling process. The ISE provides a competitive quotation to our customer and via collaboration with an Outside Sales Engineer (OSE…the sales engineer who interacts directly with our customer), ensures the quotation becomes an order. The ISE position has similar duties to the Applications Engineer (AE) industry position, but the ISE is heavily involved in selling strategy, hence the position title differentiation. The ISE is the ultimate owner of the quotation process, as well as the owner of the quotation we provide to the customer. The ISE must have a strong foundational knowledge of Ruhrpumpen (RP) products, sales methodologies, and applications engineering processes.
For this position within the Desalination Team, the ISE must additionally possess strong knowledge of desalination processes, high‑pressure pumping systems, and the commercial/technical requirements typical of major EPC contractors and end-users in the sector.

Primary Responsibilities:
Quotation Ownership & Execution

• Prepare timely and accurate quotations based on customer requirements, including value‑added alternatives and optimized solutions.
• Own the full quotation lifecycle: initial sizing/selection, technical clarifications, commercial alignment, and handover to execution teams once ordered.
• Properly utilize RP quotation tools, software, reference materials, and internal processes.

• Work closely with OSEs, Product Line teams, factory execution teams, procurement teams, and sub‑vendors.
• Qualify sub‑vendor proposals (commercially and technically) to ensure alignment with customer needs and RP standards.
• Participate in internal or customer technical/commercial meetings when needed.
• Maintain strong customer focus through specification comments, clarification handling, and proactive identification of customer needs.

• Manage multiple quotations simultaneously, each in different stages (drafting, customer clarifications, revision cycles, handover).
• Support cross‑functional activities to ensure best customer experience and timely delivery.

• Although based in the X office, the position carries a global remit and may focus primarily on projects outside the local region.

• Solid understanding of desalination processes and related pump applications (High Pressure Pumps, Booster Pumps, Vertical Intake Pumps).
• Ability to size, select, and quote pumps based on desalination project requirements: flow, head, efficiency, NPSH, and materials.
• Expertise in seawater- and brine‑resistant materials and their proper selection for corrosive environments.

• Experience reviewing RFQs, datasheets, specifications, P&IDs, and tender documents specific to desalination projects.
• Ability to prepare, manage, and negotiate technical clarifications and deviations for desalination tenders.
• Support preparation of competitive offers by aligning technical solutions with cost drivers and project strategy.

• Familiarity with EPCs and end-users in the desalination industry, including their technical requirements and commercial practices.
• Awareness of desalination market trends, ongoing project pipelines, key players, and competitive landscape.

• Close cooperation with Sales, Project Managers, and Product Line teams to ensure RP solutions remain competitive and align with project expectations.

• Degree in Mechanical  Engineering is preferred but other engineering disciplines & Industrial Distribution considered.
• 3+ years of experience in rotating equipment tendering department experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills are essential as ISE will communicate with persons located in many areas globally (verbal and written communications)
• Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills are a must as the work is deadline-driven, and ISE will have many quotation projects in different stages of the quotation life at any given time.
• Experience/knowledge of engineered equipment, such as industrial/rotating equipment/tools, would also be considered for this role as qualifications (i.e,. Pumps, valves, compressors, pipes, sealing equipment, drivers, machinery, etc.).
• Experience in markets such as oil & gas, chemical processing, power generation, water transportation, & general industry lends itself well to this position.
• Desired working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, pumps (applications, sizing, mechanical operation), and pump design standards (API, HI, ANSI, DIN, etc.).
