Drafter Sr

Job Summary

In addition to the objectives and responsibilities of the (Drafter 1, 2) titles, this position will be able to prepare “custom” customer submittal drawings for all project and product types. Related drawings include: “Complex” General Arrangement, Sectional, Piping and other technical types. Interpret and apply advanced levels of technical instructions (Including project specific specifications) for translation into accurately scaled 2D and 3D CAD formats. Actively participate in developing; Departmental Standards, Work Instructions and Templates, including 2D block References and 3D Modeled i-parts with i-logic and i-mate assemblies. Operate independently within departmental and industry related standards. Operate independently of an Engineers technical oversite with a minimum margin of error.  Mentor all junior titles in the proper applications of relevant Departmental and Industry Standards and relevant Best Practices. Provide practical feedback with solution based recommendations for improving throughput quality, accuracy and efficiency of all department tasks. A wide degree of creativity and technical knowhow is expected with a strong knowledge of Design, Engineering Mathematics, Materials and strength of Materials. This is a position of strong influence, which an aptitude for leadership, decision making, discipline and integrity are required.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design; in addition to traditional assignments, unique complex project submittal and manufacturing drawings for all pump types, in multiple CAD formats 2D/3D and with the highest degree of accuracy.
  • Develop; Department Standards, Best Practices and Protocols for improved consistency, accuracy and technical advancement of the Drafting Team.   
  • Check and Review; the work of junior positions in a mentoring environment.
  • Applied Proficiency; in the operational use of the companies Document Management System (ADEPT).
  • Applied Proficiency; for administering related activities within the companies Materials Recourse and Planning (MRP) soft wear.  
  • Advance proficiency; with all 2D/3D CAD tools with a proficient knowledge of CNC program logic.
  • Develop; in collaboration with CAD Administrator and junior titles. All user protocols and interface tools, blocks and templates using advanced AutoCAD and Inventor knowledge.
  • Provides; the required support and influence for the required technical development of all junior titles. Promotes an environment of quality and applied standards.
  • Provides by example, the quality of work which is consistent with departmental expectations. 

Qualifications and Skills: Associates  in Mechanical Drafting or Equivalent. Bachelors in Industrial Technology/Mechanical Design (Preferred)

10 plus years In Mechanical Design Drafting in Industrial Manufacturing.

5 plus years required in Drafting Rotating Equipment

2 plus years Pump Design

Knowledge:

Proficient knowledge and use of current AutoCAD design software (Mechanical and Inventor 2017).  Proficient in commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the mechanical drafting field. Proficient understanding of the principles and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Proficient understanding in the principles and application of the industry leading Drafting Standards ASME Y14.5. Proficient understanding in the principles of Cast, Welded and Machined fabrications and required Machine Stock and material allowances. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook. Requires a minimum degree of instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Good English communication skills both written and oral are required.  Able to complete multiple tasks concurrently and work in a fast paced environment while demonstrating skills for organization and time management. Work and participate in a dynamic team environment. Experience mentoring or supervising junior titles is a plus.
